The Audiolab 7000A integrated amplifier sits between the much lauded 6000A and the high-end 9000A. The 6000A is a popular amplifier known for its features and well balanced sound. The 7000A joins the range with updated features and upgraded sound.
And the Audiolab 7000A is a very versatile amplifier which includes a wide range of inputs - both analogue and digital, in addition to a high quality DAC and bluetooth. 7000A also features three amplifier modes, allowing you to use it as an integrated amplifier, power amplifier or standalone DAC/preamp.
There is also now a larger colour display and the uprated power amplifier delivers 70W per channel. Another new edition is the HDMI ARC connector for TV sound and the built in DAC uses the latest ESS chipset for best possible sound from your digital sources. A remarkably capable amplifier.
Upgraded Display
The display widow on the 7000A has been made larger and now features a colour GUI. It is also larger than the entry level 6000A display. The display is visually appealing and shows a mass of information such as volume level, input selection, format data and more. There is also an impressive and comprehensive menu system.
Settings include input sensitivity adjustment, balance control and automatic standby switching. Another fun and useful feature is the analogue or digital VU meter. This displays real-time audio data. The animations can also be adjusted.
Versatile Connectivity
The Audiolab 7000A has a high-end, built in DAC that can take it’s input from a myriad of sources. There are four basic digital inputs, two optical and two coaxial. Furthermore, there is a USB input for connecting external hard drives, PC’s Mac’s and smartphones. A new addition is the HDMI ARC input for TV sound. The 7000A is the only amplifier in the Audiolab range to offer this connection. Bluetooth is also included.
ESS Sabre32 DAC
The high end ESS Sabre32 DAC ensures high-res audio is catered for as well, supporting PCM to 32-bit/ 768 kHz and DSD to 22.5MHz (DSD512) via USB. This hi-res streaming format is decoded internally making the 7000A perfect for Tidal’s ‘HiFi Plus’ tier where Tidal Masters (MQA) content can be found. This amplifier is also Roon tested.
Analogue Connectivity
There are four RCA analogue inputs including one for a turntable. The phono preamp is not an afterthought and has been upgraded with improved RIAA equalization and better input filtering to get the best possible sound from your vinyl.
Class AB Amplifier
The 6000A’s impressive class AB amplifier has been upgraded with great sonic effect. The power has also been increased to 70W per channel. It has a large 9A current capability for strong transients. The discrete output stages have superior linearity and good temperature stability. Additionally, the toroidal power transformer has been upgraded to a 250VA unit. The smoothing capacitance is now a massive 60000 mFd giving a great dynamic range.
Preamp Section
The preamp stages are kept as simple as possible. All volume control is done in the analogue domain. The circuit layout has also been carefully designed to shield the sensitive circuitry from noise and interference. Additionally, the preamp has an independent low noise power supply.
Headphone Output
Headphone listeners are nor forgotten and the Headphone amp on the 7000a is also not an afterthought. There is a separate headphone amplifier with a high slew rate. The headphone amp delivers a dynamic and detailed performance with all types of headphones.
