Arcam Radia A25 integrated amplifier is the best featured and best sounding of the Arcam Radia amplifier range, sitting above the A5 and A15 models. In contrast to its Class AB smaller brothers, A25 is a Class G design boasting 100 watts per channel. The backlit solid knobs add a touch of luxury to the anodized aluminium case and a compact remote control is included.
Arcam has a long history of building top-performing amplifiers. This amplifier replaces the prior SA30 but is far more than a cosmetic upgrade – it's been reworked and redesigned, making it a complete game changer at what is still a real world price.
Please note: some images show A25 with the matching ST5 streamer and CD5 CD player - these are not included but are available separately.
Bluetooth 5.2 AptX
Two-way Bluetooth is included and uses the latest 5.2, 24-bit HD aptX codec for the best possible sound. This allows you to stream music from your smartphone, tablet or other Bluetooth enabled device – you can also connect to Bluetooth headphones, a useful feature for considerate listening in the evening.
Phono Stage and DAC
A high quality MM phono stage is included and has been carefully designed to offer excellent sound quality comparable with some separate phono stages, allowing you to enjoy your vinyl straight away if you don’t have a separate phono stage.
The onboard DAC features the high end ESS ES9280A DAC chipset, one of the best sounding DACs available today. Three digital inputs are included alongside three standard line-level inputs, allowing you to enjoy the best possible sound from a range of music sources via your choice of input – either directly at line level or taking advantage of the excellent onboard DAC via digital input.
Class G amplification
Class G is a derivation of Class AB, but before we explain please allow us to look at the other amplifier classes first. Class A is used for low-power systems. Many valve amplifiers are Class A with a single output device. This amplifies the whole of the audio waveform. Class A sounds the best but is very inefficient and needs a large power supply.
As a result Class B was developed, which uses two or more output devices. Each one of the output transistors deals with half of the audio waveform. As a result, it is more efficient but can suffer from crossover distortion. This led to the development of Class AB, where Class A is used at low powers and Class B is gradually switched in at higher volumes.
Class G is similar to Class AB except that it has improved amplifier efficiency by uses multiple power rails and thus optimising the power supply. Class G uses at least two different rails and each higher voltage rail is switched in as the volume increases. The advantage is improved efficiency, with higher-powered outputs. You can hear this as smoother, more dynamic and overall far more musical sound than with the other amplifier designs.
